If it’s a traditional decorative bronze sculpture you are looking for, we can help you there too with our large choice of Art Deco Bronze Sculptures and many other works in bronze coming in and out on a regular basis. Something for your desk perhaps or an impressive bronze centerpiece for your dining table - all can be found on this site or at our premises which are open to the public every week day and on selected Saturdays - see the home page for details.

Here at Regent Antiques we offer a comprehensive range of bronze statues and busts, including some which are life-size or even larger and which may be displayed either indoors or outdoors.

Bronze Sculpture, Bronze Statues & Bronze Busts

The use of bronze for casting sculpture is an old one and one which has changed little over the years. There are still plenty of bronze foundries across the UK, but most often found in and around London.

Bronze is an alloy of Copper (around 80%) and Tin although other elements are often added to give the alloy different qualities.

Bronze is particularly useful for making larger statues as it is not brittle, although its relatively high cost, due mainly to the Copper content, has to be taken into consideration. It is not unheard of for large bronze statues to be stolen and melted down due to the high value of the alloy.

The bronze bust is of course a firm favourite and all of the “usual suspects” are represented from time to time. The Emperor Napoleon, the Duke of Wellington, William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar and a host of other Roman luminaries are all amongst those regularly featured in bronze busts.

Bronze Fountains & Outdoor Bronze Statues

Many of our bronze statues are suitable for use outdoors. Bronze is an alloy that doesn’t rust, as it contains no iron, but it can corrode over time - however this tends to give it an even more attractive patinated appearance which is often sought after by enthusiasts. Bronze then is ideal for use outdoors and is the medium of choice for outdoor and public sculpture in towns and cities all over the world.

With that in mind, we are always pleased to be able to offer statues that would fit in nicely with your garden at home or of course with larger gardens, parks, hotels and larger estates. Many of our pieces have been made - or adapted - for use as fountains and water features so please be sure to ask about those if that is what you are looking for.

A visit to our London showroom would enable you to see several examples of bronze statues that are of a size that could only really be displayed in a large building with high ceilings or outdoors. Everything from horses, horses and riders, large animals such as bears and elephants, Roman gladiators and warriors, and even a life-sized statue of physicist Albert Einstein sitting on a bench have all featured in our inventory from time to time.

Bronzes of animals are particularly popular for outdoor use with the horse or horse and rider being amongst the most popular subjects along with bears and deer. Let's not forget bronze statues of birds though, we always have examples of large bronze statues of birds for our showroom and website visitors to look at including ever popular subjects like eagles, owls and others.

Art Deco Bronze Statues and other Art Deco Bronzes

The Art Deco movement which came to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s was very fond of bronze as a medium for expressing the lovely lines and curves which were so much a part of its ethos.

As a result, there were a number of prominent artists and sculptors who specialised in producing bronze sculptures including Demétre Chiparus, Ferdinand Preiss, Paul Phillipe and many more. We have examples, usually recasts of the original pieces, by all of these well-known Art Deco sculptors in our showroom for you to see.

Bronze Animal Sculptures

Animal sculptures are always popular, for two main reasons: firstly they are popular with those who have a love of animals and birds and who collect a variety of decorative pieces which feature animals in many different styles and materials, secondly, there are those who focus on bronze animal sculpture and we are able to display a large collection ranging from small pieces suitable for the display cabinet, the table top, desk top or sideboard, right up to larger than life-sized bronze horses, bears and other impressive animals which are predominantly used for display outdoors.

Bronze Lamps and Lighting

Although most bronze sculpture is designed to be placed on display and looked at and admired, we do also stock bronze pieces that have been adapted, or were originally designed, to be lamps or light sources of one sort or another. Bronze table lamps, wall lights and other examples are well represented in our showroom but we also usually have larger items of bronze lighting available which may be suitable for use outdoors.

Bronzes are available for a variety of purposes and to suit many different tastes. Please be sure to browse our website regularly as the stock changes almost on a daily basis and the bronze statue you have been looking for is sure to arrive sooner or later, so be sure to request our regular email notifications of new arrivals.

Vintage Large Bronze Sculpture Fountain of Classical Lady with Amphora 20th C

Vintage Large Bronze Sculpture Fountain of Classical Lady with Amphora 20th C

This is a wonderful and high-quality solid bronze sculpture and fountain in the form of a delightfull Neo-Classical lady holding an amphora, from the last quarter of the 20th century. This beautiful large bronze statue features a composed lady dressed in Neo-Classical attire with a long vest and holding an amphora with both her arms on top of her right-hand shoulder. If required it can be connected to the water supply and water will spill out of the amphora. There is unspeakable beauty in the whole pose, which is full of dignity. Her face slightly turned downward with her eyes closed, her left-hand arm placed above her head in the act of aiding the other arm in supporting the amphora. It is difficult to think of this work as a lifeless bronze - it seems indeed to move in front of our eyes, and yet to remain at rest.     It stands against a tall rectangular vertical bronze column, which looks perfect when being placed against a wall.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            This high-quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method. Antique French Art Deco Green Patinated Bronze of Semi nude Warrior

Antique French Art Deco Green Patinated Bronze of Semi-nude Warrior c.1930

This is a magnificent antique French Art Deco green patinated bronze sculpture of a semi-nude warrior, by the famous French sculptor, Pierre Le Faguays (French, 1892-1962), circa 1930 in date.   This stunning sculpture features the remarkable figure of a classical semi-nude warrior with a javelin in his right hand and an oval shield on his left arm with both javelin and shield being detachable.  He is depicted with impressive facial expressions and body gestures in the act of determinedly and assertively throwing the javelin while parrying with his shield.    The sculptor has succeeded in conveying every little detail of the scene - the tight muscles of the warrior given by the tension of the act, the frowning forehead above a focused gaze and the legs stretching deep-rooted on the ground make us feel engaged with the scene and fully captivated.    The sloping rocky style bronze base in which the warrior stands is signed 'P. Le Faguays'.    This high-quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.   This is a splendid bronze sculpture and it will no doubt become the centrepiece of your Art Deco collection.   The attention to detail here is remarkable and this bronze is sure to receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed. Pair of Large Art Deco Revival Bronze Seated Dogs 20th C

Dating from the last quarter of the 20th century these fine pieces show a workmanship second-to-none and would make superb display pieces either indoors on either side of a fireplace or outdoors in a garden. They have been cast using the traditional ‘lost wax’ also known as the ‘cire-perdue’ method. Condition These bronze dog statues are in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs. Additional Information About The ‘Lost Wax’ Method of Bronze Statue Casting Used by most cultures all around the world, bronze sculptures have been fashioned by this method since at least the 3rd millennium BCE. The technique makes use of a wax model of the piece to be cast, which is coated in plaster or clay to create a mold. The wax is warmed up and drained off once the mold is set. If a hollow bronze statue is called for then the wax model is fabricated around a heat proof kernel. Molten bronze is put into the mold and left to dry. Once the metal has cooled enough, the mold is broken open to expose the bronze statue within. Art Deco or Deco Art Deco is an important aesthetic arts design style that first made an appearance in France in the 1920s, and blossomed throughout the world during the 30s and 40s. It is an eclectic design that mixes traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often distinguished by vibrant colours, bold geometric shapes, and extravagant ornamentation. Deco appeared from the Interwar period when rapid industrialization was transforming culture. One of its major attributes is an embrace of technology. This distinguishes Deco from the organic themes favored by its precursor Art Nouveau. Historian Bevis Hillier outlined Art Deco as "an assertively modern style... [that] ran to symmetry rather than asymmetry, and to the rectilinear rather than the curvilinear; it responded to the demands of the machine and of new material... [and] the requirements of mass production". During its heyday Art Deco exemplified glamour, luxury, exuberance, and faith in social and technological advance. Magnificent Life Size Bronze Wild Boar Pig Wildlife

Magnificent Life Size Bronze Wild Boar Pig Wildlife

This bronze garden ornament of a wild boar is a gorgeous rendition of a life size wild boar. This bronze statue of the animal is incredibly lifelike and reproduced in magnificent detail. Equally at home indoors or outdoors, this fantastic bronze garden ornament of a wild boar could be placed to dramatic effect in many locations. Imagine having this lovely bronze statue artfully placed in a garden woodland or perhaps as an arresting feature in a large vestibule or hall. Either way the incredible attention to detail and fine craftsmanship of this fine bronze sculpture is sure to be a talking point. Cast in solid bronze using the traditional lost wax (or cire perdue) method, this fantastic bronze garden ornament of a wild boar is of the highest quality. The lost wax method has been used for millennia to produce highly detailed bronze (or other metal) works of art. It involves making a mould from a model of the piece to be cast, coating this on the inside with wax to the desired thickness of the metal and filling the remaining internal space with a heat proof material. This configuration is then baked in a kiln and the wax runs off. Molten bronze is then poured into the space left behind by the melted wax and when cool the mould and inner packing material is removed. You are left with a superbly detailed rendition of the model that you created to be cast. The method also works very well for re-casting bronze statues. We have more bronzes to impress you with here. It is in superb condition as can be seen from the photographs in our gallery. Please do take a few moments to look at these to satisfy yourself on the condition of this bronze pond fountain. You will also be able to see the fabulous design and detailing that has gone into this spectacular bronze garden water feature statue. The lost wax method or ‘cire perdue’ as it is known in French, is a traditional method that dates back at least five thousand years. The method enables casting of bronze (and other metal) sculptures, statues and objects with the finest detail. It works by creating a model of the object to be cast in wax or other suitable material. A mould is then made from this and coated on the inside with a layer of wax to the desired thickness of the metal required for the object being cast. Suitable vents and a pour hole are also inserted into the mould and wax layer so that gases can escape and so the molten metal can be poured into it. The remaining internal space of the mould is filled with a heat proof material and the whole assembly is baked in a kiln. The wax melts and runs off and the molten bronze is then poured into the space left behind and left to cool. Once the metal is cold the mould and inner material is removed leaving a perfect replica of the original model. The mould can be reused (depending on the quality of the material) to create further castings. This it the method that was used to produce this fantastic bronze garden water feature and it bears testament to the very fine and intricate detailing that can be achieved. He was born in 1874 to an aristocratic family and having served time in the Royal Cavalry, he was elected as a Conservative MP in 1900. He defected to the Liberal Party and became First Lord of the Admiralty in the Liberal Government and received heavy criticism for the disaster at Gallipoli which he created. He resigned and went back to fighting himself. In the interwar years he ‘crossed the floor’ and returned to the Conservative Party becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1924. He lost his seat in 1929 and spent the next 11 years out of office writing and making speeches. He was alone in his opposition to Indian Independence but was proven correct in his strong warnings against the Appeasement of Nazi Germany when the second world war broke out in 1939. When the Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain resigned in 1940, Churchill was voted in to succeed him as Prime Minister of an all-party coalition government. His firm leadership and rousing speeches did much to stimulate British morale during periods of great hardship. Whilst he lost office again in 1945 with the election of a Labour government who instituted a Welfare State, he was re-elected in 1951 but his age and health was against him and he often had to conduct government business from his bed. He resigned in 1955 and died ten years later. A complex and sometimes difficult man, he had bouts of depression which he called his ‘black dog’, he was a larger than life character who still attracts great devotion. Antique French Pair Two-Tone Gilt Bronze Lidded Urns with Cherub Finials 19th C

This is a stunning pair of antique French twin handle two-tone gilt bronze garniture lidded urns, circa 1870 in date. These splendid urns have exquisite cast side handles with beautiful grapes and vine decoration. The ormolu lids feature superb reclining cherubs.   They are superbly cast with continuous scenes of delightful dancing cherubs  and a distinctive goat, above writhen fluted lower bodies and leaf cast circular bases. Goats in art have been associated with the worship of Bacchus (the God of Wine), which explains the appropriateness of the presence of goats in these Neo-Classical style urns' scenes, which indeed bears a distinctive bacchanalian theme.    This high-quality hot cast solid bronze pair of urns were produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.   Each urn comes is raised on a resplendent giltwood and blue velvet stand.   This pair of lidded urns represents timeless elegance and will no doubt receive the maximum amount of attention wherever placed. Condition: In good condition. As antique items, the pieces show signs of use commensurate with age, these minor condition issues are mentioned for accuracy and, as seen in the accompanying photographs, the urns display beautifully.

Antique Victorian Bronze Sculpture of Greek God Apollo 19th Century

Antique Victorian Bronze Sculpture of Greek God Apollo 19th Century

This is a truly magnificent antique Victorian bronze sculpture of the famous Greek God Apollo, circa 1860 in date.   This stunning bronze sculpture features Apollo in classical pose after the celebrated marble sculpture of Apollo Belvedere. The nude figure is standing tall with his right arm resting on a tree and his left arm is outstretched.    Slung over Apollo’s shoulders is his quiver held in place by a strap. As exactly in the original Apollo Belvedere, the God here appears in magnificent form and physique, and he is shown just moments after releasing his arrow. Apollo stands “contrapposto”, with one leg remaining rigid while the other is relaxed.    It stands on a beautiful rouge marble plinth and the base is engraved 'Musee Du Vatican'.    This high-quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.   This is a splendid antique bronze sculpture and it will no doubt become the centrepiece of your collection.   The attention to detail here is remarkable and this bronze is sure to receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed.   The pedestal shown in the photographs is not included in the price but can be purchased if required.   Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation.

Pair Bronze Napoleonic Soldiers Drummer & Rifleman 20th C

Pair Bronze Napoleonic Soldiers Drummer & Rifleman 20th C

Here’s a pair of military statues dating from the latter part of the last century and of interest to Napoleonic Wars enthusiasts and collectors. This is a very fine pair of medium sized bronze statues depicting two soldiers from the time of the Napoleonic war, which is generally taken to be 1803 - 1815 although some define the time period as being somewhat longer. One of the soldiers in the pair is a rifleman and the other is a drummer. These bronze military statues have been skilfully recast from an original sculpture by a well known 19th Century French artist – E.H Dumaige (1830-1880), whose replica signature they appears on the works. As is so often the case, these statues have been cast using the widely used lost wax process. They have retained a remarkable level of fine detail due to the accuracy of this process and are sure to appeal to both collector of bronzes and to enthusiasts of military collectables alike.
