Sometimes it just isn’t possible to find exactly what you need by way of an item of antique furniture. Perhaps you need something a bit larger than usual, or a piece with an unusual design. Maybe you would like a bespoke dining table, conference table or some bespoke chairs with marquetry decoration including your family crest or coat of arms or perhaps the logo for your business or product.

The sky's the limit with bespoke furniture that is made to order from Regent Antiques - our craftsmen can carry out unique marquetry decoration and other bespoke finishes to your own design and use fabrics of your choice for upholstery, where required. If you can envisage it in your mind, then the chances are we'll be able to make it a reality for you.

Bespoke Dining Tables in Traditional Styles with Your Special Unique Styling

Imagine sitting down to a meal with your guests at a table bearing fabulous marquetry decorations including your family crest or coat of arms. Alternatively, it might be a special feature for a hotel lobby or a restaurant private dining area that you are looking for, complete with your logo or motif applied to the table or other item of furniture using traditional marquetry techniques.

Our team regularly take on such bespoke furniture commissions, just let them have an idea of what you are looking for together with any art work or designs that you might have and they will provide you with an estimate of the cost and time required to carry out the work. These bespoke furniture pieces are all handmade using, wherever possible, traditional methods, mostly by hand and making use of the very best veneers and timbers available.

Bespoke Furniture - More Than Just Bespoke Dining Tables

Although bespoke dining tables, especially large dining tables, are a major part of our bespoke furniture business, we also regularly make bespoke dining chairs, bespoke desk chairs, bespoke sideboards and bespoke desks. If you have a design in mind just contact us and discuss the options with our team who can advise on what is possible and provide you with an estimate of the cost.

Marquetry and its use in Bespoke Furniture

Because most of the furniture we offer is made from very fine materials including the very best timber and veneers, it is appropriate that we offer a remarkable standard of bespoke marquetry decoration for your item of furniture. Each small piece of wood needed for your unique bespoke decoration is carefully hand cut from beautiful wood veneers and applied by hand to the surface of the furniture item which is to be decorated.

Applying marquetry to bespoke furniture is a time consuming process that is carried out by craftsmen who are often from the second or third generation of their family to take up such a profession.

You can see our video, ‘The Magic of Marquetry’ here. Take a look and find out just how much love and devotion goes into making every single piece of bespoke furniture to leave our workshops.

Location is not a barrier to owning a fine bespoke dining table or other item of bespoke furniture

Rest assured that, no matter where you live, we can build and deliver your own unique bespoke table, chairs or other bespoke furniture items right to your door. When we provide you with a quotation for the bespoke furniture we will also provide a quotation for packing and shipping your furniture to ensure that it gets to you in pristine condition, ready for you to enjoy.

Our customers living in the mainland UK will benefit from free of charge delivery on all bespoke furniture items, marquetry furniture and indeed any item purchased from Regent Antiques.

If you have questions or if you would like for information, just contact us using the details provided. We have a showroom where you can view examples of other bespoke furniture items that have been produced by our master craftsmen and there are some listed in this category as well to give you an idea as to what is possible with the Regent Antiques bespoke furniture service.

Bespoke English Hand Made Leather Directors Desk Chair Chestnut

Bespoke English Hand Made Leather Directors Desk Chair Chestnut

This is an absolutely stunning bespoke new leather 'Director's chair' in a beautiful Old English chestnut colour, hand-made in England with materials of the finest quality. Height is adjustable with swivel/tilt mechanism. ‘Old English Chestnut’ is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Extra fat liquors are applied during tanning to give the leather a slightly waxy feel. These leathers are designed to allow the natural marking variations of the leather to show through to the finish coat. Pull-up leathers do not have a consistent colour density across the whole hide and are designed to change colour and sheen when pulled or stretched. They are not as colour fast as pigmented hides and are designed to allow furniture to age and relax through use and over time. Evidence of marks and scarring will be seen through the surface finish. Each hide will be unique, as will be the furniture on which it is used. The studding is achieved with close individual nails or studs -  not by using strips - and each nail is individually hammered in by hand. The seat has individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand-sewn to the beechwood frame and the filling is canvas, fibre and felt. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. Available in other colours upon request. Bespoke orders and wholesale enquiries welcome. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation.

More About Louis XV Furniture Throughout the reign of Louis XV furniture design evolved taking in various fashions. The preference for smaller items and more comfort came to the fore during the Louis XV period, contrasting with the more bombastic and large scale grandeur of the early styles from the Louis XIV period, which had been heavily influenced by the need to have furniture that match the grandeur of the massive rooms in the Palace of Versailles. Louis XV had many of these rooms divided up and a more intimate styling became fashionable. Many new forms of chairs were developed during the Louis XV period which all had more comfort in mind. These included the chaise longue, the Bergere which had a low seat, an extra cushion and wings which made it easier to take naps in the chair and the Fauteuil de cabinet - a chair designed to with with a desk and provide much more comfort whilst writing. These Louis XV dining chairs with their padded back and seats show this trend for comfort and will add the ‘wow’ factor to any dining table. They are in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs. Viewing A Set Of Louis XV Dining Chairs In Person We recommend that you try and browse through our objects personally. There is no mistaking the classic and sophisticated design of this gorgeous  burr walnut and marquetry dining table and set of fourteen Regency Period dining chairs. The table is made from burr walnut which is not only strong, but has a beautiful grain. To highlight the grain, this table has been French polished. A French polish is an alcohol and shellac polish for wood. It takes a lot of patience, but it is one of the most beautiful finishes available, producing an exceptionally high gloss. The table has four leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion  by a special double wind out mechanism. When completely wound in, and the leaves are all removed the table is transformed into a 5ft diameter dining table. It is raised on six elegant legs for extra stability and they terminate in brass cap castors The table has exquisite marquetry decoration and these regal decorations include bouquets of flowers, vases, swirls and geometric designs. The superb and rare long set of fourteen antique Regency Period mahogany dining chairs, Circa 1820 in date, comprises thirteen side chairs and one armchair. The bar back chairs with  curved top rails above scrolled horizontal splats. The overstuffed drop in seats above reeded seat rails, they are raised on elegant sabre legs, and they have been reupholstered in a sumptuous blue velvet. It is rare to find such a large, fabulous and comfortable set of chairs and they will enhance your dining table beautifully.   Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation.   The making of a marquetry masterpiece The making of a bespoke marquetry dining table involves many phases - carried out with the highest level of attention to detail - by third generation master craftsmen in our workshop in Italy. First the design of the marquetry is drawn on paper. The paper is then glued on to a sheet of plywood and the veneers are attached to the underside with pins. There can be a maximum of 16 sheets of veneer.  In this case, there are 8 for the burr walnut and 8 for the marquetry. With a fret cutter, using a very fine blade, the marquetry is cut out, using the burr walnut and various coloured veneers to compose the flowers. Today we use an electric fret cutter, although in the 18th and 19th centuries the cutters were operated by treadles. All of the cut out pieces of veneer are then placed on a large tray. They are then singed by being placed in hot sand in a red hot crucible. This singed effect gives different shades to the various veneers, depending on how deep and how long they are left in the hot sand. The various items of veneer are then inserted into the burr walnut one by one. After they are inserted, tape is placed over them to keep them in place. They are then turned over and a sheet of glued paper is placed over them all, after which the tape can be removed. The prepared solid mahogany table is then veneered with mahogany - twice on the under side, horizontally and vertically, and then once on the top side. The prepared marquetry and burr walnut sheet is then placed on top and the whole table top is placed into a hot press, which glues the sheet to the top. The backing paper can then be sanded off. The table top is then veneered 4 times to prevent the top from bowing or warping. Once the assembly is complete, the table is French polished by hand using natural products, resulting in a stunning bespoke masterpiece of marquetry.

This striking handmade bespoke oval dining table features an array of intricate hand cut marquetry decoration comprising vases, ribbons, urns and decorative garlands. The main timber used for the construction of the table is French burr walnut, a wood that features such a detailed and beautiful grain. To emphasis that grain, this table has been French polished by hand to a high gloss thereby bringing out the fine grain of the burr walnut as well as the inlaid marquetry decoration. Versatility is assured when you take into account that this table can be extended or retracted as required by adding or removing one or two of the two expansion leaves supplied. This is easily done by using the special winding mechanism which is incorporated into the table. Although primarily described as a dining table this set could be equally at home in a boardroom or conference room. This large and substantial oval dining table needs proper support and to that end it is mounted onto four beautifully carved legs which are terminated with brass cap castors to facilitate ease of movement. The Matching Dining Chairs This fine table is supplied with a total of ten burr walnut and inlaid marquetry chairs which complement the table beautifully. The set comprises a pair of armchairs along with a total of eight side chairs. The chairs are made from solid walnut and also feature marquetry decoration along the same lines as the table. For your seating comfort, the chairs in this set have beautifully upholstered and feature drop in seats which can quickly and easily be removed leaving the cane seats below available to provide a cooler seating option in warmer weather. Make It Personal - Our Bespoke Dining Table Service This is a very fine marquetry dining table as it is but we also offer you the opportunity to acquire one just like it which has been personalised with the same standard of marquetry designs that you yourself specify. Bespoke 14 ft Three Pillar Mahogany Dining Table and 16 Chairs

Bespoke 14 ft Three Pillar Mahogany Dining Table and 16 Chairs

Here we have a very attractive and imposing Three Pillar Mahogany Dining Table & 14 Chairs, carefully matched to complement each other perfectly. This dining table & chairs set is not your average run-of-the-mill set that could be obtained from almost any furniture retailer, on or off line. Instead, this is a very large, variable length, marquetry dining table that, in its longest configuration, is big enough to accommodate up to 14 people in comfort. This makes it a real contender for use in a conference room, company boardroom or in a restaurant or hotel dining room for use at banquets, wedding receptions and other special occasions. This Regency style dining table is made from the finest flame mahogany and is sure to be a talking point wherever it is placed. It has two additional leaves which can be added to extend it, when required, into a large dining table to suit any occasion. It would work equally well as an eye catching boardroom table or as a formal table in a hotel or restaurant. To provide the kind of strength and stability that a table top of this size requires, and in keeping with the Regency dining table style, this table top stands on a total of three ‘gun barrel’ triple leg bases which have been fitted with brass toes and castors for ease of movement. This gives the table a distinctive styling adding to its overall grandeur. The amazing craftsmanship that has gone into this elegant table is obvious, even at first glance, with the table surface having been given a crossbanded border which was created using satinwood. This enhances the lovely warm tones and grain of the flame mahogany wood ensuring they are shown off to perfection. Supplied with a set of 14 matching chairs This dining table & chairs set is supplied complete with a set of solid mahogany chairs which feature inlaid crossbanded satinwood decoration to match that of the table. They also have drop-in seats which can be removed in the hot weather so as to utilise the cooler caned seats situated below. 12ft Bespoke Handmade Burr Walnut Marquetry Dining Table & 12 Chairs

12ft Bespoke Handmade Burr Walnut Marquetry Dining Table & 12 Chairs

This bespoke handmade large dining table measures 360 cm (approximately 12 feet) when fully extended. Crafted in the style of a victorian dining table, it features the most superb marquetry and can comfortably accommodate up to twelve people making it suitable not only for dining but equally for use in a boardroom or conference/meeting room. Crafted in top quality burr walnut, which is known to be a beautifully figured timber very popular with furniture makers across the ages, this large dining table also features a plethora of intricate inlaid marquetry designs depicting swags, urns and ribbons. All of the marquetry is handmade and inset. Made from wood veneers of various shades, this large dining table has been expertly French polished by hand to emphasis out the wood grains and marquetry to best effect. The table features a special winding mechanism which is used to enable the fitting of up to three extension leaves of 60 cm (2 feet) each. These can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion. This lovely large dining table has four wonderfully carved legs that also feature marquetry and that terminate in brass cap castors. A set of 12 matching chairs, as shown in the photographs, is supplied with this table. There are ten dining chairs, each measuring 105 cm high x 48 cm wide x 46 cm deep. The two armchairs each measure 105 high x 56 cm wide and 53 cm deep. The set of twelve burr walnut and inlaid chairs match the table beautifully. They are made from solid walnut with upholstered drop in seat pads which can be removed so that the cane seats below can be used in warmer weather, and for cleaning. Condition This large dining table and the set of chairs is brand new and therefore in pristine condition. The Making of a Marquetry Masterpiece Please take a few moments to view the video we have made about how this large dining table was made by our third generation craftsmen in Italy. We are able to build a similar table for you with your own specification marquetry decoration, at extra cost. Will it fit? This is a very large dining table so be careful to measure the space where you would like it to go. When fully extended using all three of the leaves, this large dining table has a height of 80 cm (2 feet, 7 inches) and a depth of 130 cm (4 feet, 3 inches) and a length of 360 cm (11 feet, 10 inches). When closed (the leaves are not being used) the height and depth are the same, but the length is reduced to 180 cm (5 feet, 11 inches). As you can see, even in its reduced format, this is still a large dining table. About Burr Walnut Burr walnut has been used by furniture makers for centuries due to its wonderful swirling figure which adds true glamour to the pieces it is used for. Most walnut wood displays the swirling figure when it is cut and polished, particularly when it is cut from where the trunk of the tree meets the roots. However, ‘true’ burr walnut comes from a rare growth pattern of a walnut tree where hundreds of tiny branches have started to grow. This formation is unusual and rare, so burr walnut usually refers to the more ordinary swirling figures found in more normal growth. Bespoke English Handmade Amsterdam Leather Arm Chair bruciato

Bespoke English Handmade Amsterdam Leather Arm Chair bruciato

This is an absolutely stunning new bespoke 'Amsterdam Armchair' in a beautiful bruciato colour, hand-made in England with materials of the finest quality. Old English is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Seats have individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand sewn to the beechwood frame. The filling is canvas, fibre and felt.   The effect can be very pleasing although bear in mind that this hand-dyed leather can fade in direct sunlight. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. Available in other colours upon request. Bespoke orders and wholesale enquiries welcome. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation.
