Our extensive collection of antique sofas and antique stools is one of the best around and you are sure to find something there that will add a touch of old-fashioned glamour to your home, office or other space. The range includes upholstered Victorian sofas with walnut bases and rosewood stools from the Edwardian period as well as some more contemporary items. Just browse this category and find what you are looking for in the comfort of your home or office.

Along with a fine range of antique sofas and stools you will also find listed here our range of craftsman-made English leather sofas and stools which are made in London, UK and are available in a range of different upholstery finishes and colours. This range can be ordered in the exact configuration you require and we can accommodate most requests for particular colours.

If you cannot find exactly what you want in our antique sofas and stools inventory, please take a look at this range because they really are made in traditional ways using the very best materials - the same as those that the craftsmen of old would have used. We do not propose that this range is a substitute for a genuine antique sofa but it does give you the flexibility of getting the exact item or item that you need, for example to match up to your decor or colour scheme.

Our seasoned antique professionals travel widely in search of the finest examples of antique stools and vintage sofas which are lovingly restored to the highest standard in our workshops. So if your décor is calling out for a touch of class, browse our attractive selection today.

The History of Sofas and Stools

A number of different historical periods are covered within our antique sofas and stool ranges including, in no particular order, Victorian, Edwardian, Louis XV, French Empire and Art Deco. In many cases, these pieces will have been reupholstered using top quality fabrics in keeping with the original item and its period, but please do make a point of checking the detailed descriptions we provide with all of our listings so that you are clear about what it is you will be receiving.

As with the upholstery, many of these antique furniture items will be restored by our craftsmen in our own workshops. These are people who believe in using traditional techniques and materials as far as possible in order to maintain the look and feel of the pieces they are sympathetically restoring.

At Home or At Work We Have The Antique Sofa for Your Space

Many of our antique sofas and other items of antique furniture find their way into hotels, restaurants and other commercial spaces. We are often asked to supply pieces for use on film sets, mainly for period dramas and we were fortunate enough to recently supply items for the filming of Downton Abbey.

Although we place a great deal of importance on these commercial placings, our first responsibility is that you, our customer, can find the items that you want to use and live with for many years to come, not just for a few hours on a film set but as a permanent fixture in your home.

Bespoke English Button Back Leather Chesterfield Hazel

Bespoke English Button Back Leather Chesterfield Hazel

This is an absolutely stunning bespoke leather 'Chesterfield' in a beautiful colour that we call Old English Hazel and hand-made in London, England with materials of the finest quality. It features sumptuous button back leather, "Old English Hazel " which is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Extra fat liquors are applied during tanning to give the leather a slightly waxy feel. These leathers are designed to allow the natural marking variations of the leather to show through to the finish coat. Pull-up leathers do not have a consistent colour density across the whole hide and are designed to change colour and sheen when pulled or stretched. They are not as colour fast as pigmented hides and are designed to allow furniture to age and relax through use and over time. Evidence of marks and scarring will be seen through the surface finish.   Each hide will be unique, as will be the furniture on which it is used. The studding is achieved with close individual nails or studs -  not by using strips - and each nail is individually hammered in by hand., and the frames are made from solid beech, as we only use hardwoods. The seat has individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand sewn to the beechwood frame and the filling is canvas, fibre and felt. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. Available in other colours, see colour charts in photos. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation.
