Bespoke Furniture

Sometimes it just isn’t possible to find exactly what you need by way of an item of antique furniture. Perhaps you need something a bit larger than usual, or a piece with an unusual design. Maybe you would like a bespoke dining table, conference table or some bespoke chairs with marquetry decoration including your family crest or coat of arms or perhaps the logo for your business or product.

The sky's the limit with bespoke furniture that is made to order from Regent Antiques - our craftsmen can carry out unique marquetry decoration and other bespoke finishes to your own design and use fabrics of your choice for upholstery, where required. If you can envisage it in your mind, then the chances are we'll be able to make it a reality for you.

Bespoke Dining Tables in Traditional Styles with Your Special Unique Styling

Imagine sitting down to a meal with your guests at a table bearing fabulous marquetry decorations including your family crest or coat of arms. Alternatively, it might be a special feature for a hotel lobby or a restaurant private dining area that you are looking for, complete with your logo or motif applied to the table or other item of furniture using traditional marquetry techniques.

Our team regularly take on such bespoke furniture commissions, just let them have an idea of what you are looking for together with any art work or designs that you might have and they will provide you with an estimate of the cost and time required to carry out the work. These bespoke furniture pieces are all handmade using, wherever possible, traditional methods, mostly by hand and making use of the very best veneers and timbers available.

Bespoke Furniture - More Than Just Bespoke Dining Tables

Although bespoke dining tables, especially large dining tables, are a major part of our bespoke furniture business, we also regularly make bespoke dining chairs, bespoke desk chairs, bespoke sideboards and bespoke desks. If you have a design in mind just contact us and discuss the options with our team who can advise on what is possible and provide you with an estimate of the cost.

Marquetry and its use in Bespoke Furniture

Because most of the furniture we offer is made from very fine materials including the very best timber and veneers, it is appropriate that we offer a remarkable standard of bespoke marquetry decoration for your item of furniture. Each small piece of wood needed for your unique bespoke decoration is carefully hand cut from beautiful wood veneers and applied by hand to the surface of the furniture item which is to be decorated.

Applying marquetry to bespoke furniture is a time consuming process that is carried out by craftsmen who are often from the second or third generation of their family to take up such a profession.

You can see our video, ‘The Magic of Marquetry’ here. Take a look and find out just how much love and devotion goes into making every single piece of bespoke furniture to leave our workshops.

Location is not a barrier to owning a fine bespoke dining table or other item of bespoke furniture

Rest assured that, no matter where you live, we can build and deliver your own unique bespoke table, chairs or other bespoke furniture items right to your door. When we provide you with a quotation for the bespoke furniture we will also provide a quotation for packing and shipping your furniture to ensure that it gets to you in pristine condition, ready for you to enjoy.

Our customers living in the mainland UK will benefit from free of charge delivery on all bespoke furniture items, marquetry furniture and indeed any item purchased from Regent Antiques.

If you have questions or if you would like for information, just contact us using the details provided. We have a showroom where you can view examples of other bespoke furniture items that have been produced by our master craftsmen and there are some listed in this category as well to give you an idea as to what is possible with the Regent Antiques bespoke furniture service.

Bespoke English Hand Made Leather Captains Desk Chair Olive Green

Bespoke English Hand Made Leather Captains Desk Chair Olive Green

This is an absolutely superb bespoke new leather 'Captains chair' in a beautiful antique Olive green colour, hand-made in England with materials of the finest quality. Height is adjustable with swivel/tilt mechanism. ‘Old English’ is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Extra fat liquors are applied during tanning to give the leather a slightly waxy feel. These leathers are designed to allow the natural marking variations of the leather to show through to the finish coat. Pull-up leathers do not have a consistent colour density across the whole hide and are designed to change colour and sheen when pulled or stretched. They are not as colour fast as pigmented hides and are designed to allow furniture to age and relax through use and over time. Evidence of marks and scarring will be seen through the surface finish. Each hide will be unique, as will be the furniture on which it is used. The studding is achieved with close individual nails or studs -  not by using strips - and each nail is individually hammered in by hand. The seat has individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand-sewn to the beechwood frame and the filling is canvas, fibre and felt. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. Available in other colours upon request. More About Louis XV Furniture Throughout the reign of Louis XV furniture design evolved taking in various fashions. The preference for smaller items and more comfort came to the fore during the Louis XV period, contrasting with the more bombastic and large scale grandeur of the early styles from the Louis XIV period, which had been heavily influenced by the need to have furniture that match the grandeur of the massive rooms in the Palace of Versailles. Louis XV had many of these rooms divided up and a more intimate styling became fashionable. Many new forms of chairs were developed during the Louis XV period which all had more comfort in mind. These included the chaise longue, the Bergere which had a low seat, an extra cushion and wings which made it easier to take naps in the chair and the Fauteuil de cabinet - a chair designed to with with a desk and provide much more comfort whilst writing. These Louis XV dining chairs with their padded back and seats show this trend for comfort and will add the ‘wow’ factor to any dining table. They are in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs. Viewing A Set Of Louis XV Dining Chairs In Person We recommend that you try and browse through our objects personally. Superb Bespoke Burr Walnut Marquetry 3 Door Sideboard

Superb Bespoke Burr Walnut Marquetry 3 Door Sideboard

This is a superb large bespoke breakfront sideboard in Victorian style with room for all your plates, china, glassware and cutlery. It features three doors and three capacious drawers. It has been crafted from burr walnut and features exquisite hand cut floral marquetry decoration, and the interior has been beautifully lined with fabric. The sideboard has been French polished by hand and is ready to add a touch of class to a special place in your home.   Condition: This is a new bespoke handmade sideboard.   The making of a marquetry masterpiece The making of a bespoke marquetry table involves many phases - carried out with the highest level of attention to detail - by third generation master craftsmen in our workshop in Italy. First the design of the marquetry is drawn on paper. The paper is then glued on to a sheet of plywood and the veneers are attached to the underside with pins. There can be a maximum of 16 sheets of veneer.  In this case, there are 8 for the burr walnut and 8 for the marquetry. With a fret cutter, using a very fine blade, the marquetry is cut out, using the burr walnut and various coloured veneers to compose the flowers. Today we use an electric fret cutter, although in the 18th and 19th centuries the cutters were operated by treadles. All of the cut out pieces of veneer are then placed on a large tray. They are then singed by being placed in hot sand in a red hot crucible. This singed effect gives different shades to the various veneers, depending on how deep and how long they are left in the hot sand. The various items of veneer are then inserted into the burr walnut one by one. After they are inserted, tape is placed over them to keep them in place. They are then turned over and a sheet of glued paper is placed over them all, after which the tape can be removed. The prepared solid mahogany table is then veneered with mahogany - twice on the under side, horizontally and vertically, and then once on the top side. The prepared marquetry and burr walnut sheet is then placed on top and the whole table top is placed into a hot press, which glues the sheet to the top. The backing paper can then be sanded off. The table top is then veneered 4 times to prevent the top from bowing or warping. Once the assembly is complete, the table is French polished by hand using natural products, resulting in a stunning bespoke masterpiece of marquetry.
