This is a truly magnificent decorative group of forty framed plaster intaglios of various antique subjects, circa 1880 in date. 
 
These forty splendid intaglios are beautifully mounted on the original black ground and set in a splendid rectangular maple frame.
 
They are of various sizes, some of oval shape, others of circular form. All together making a truly attractive group depicting figures and architecture from differing periods of antique history - Medieval, Grand Tour and 19th Century, including the Colosseum, Lord Byron, Henricus II, Ioannes D., Louis VII and Louis VIII. 
 
Add a classical dimension to your home with this captivating selection of historic intaglios.

Intaglios - were originally used as seals, these carvings or cuttings are moulded out of white plaster, marble dust or wax. The original 19th-century intaglios were also made from wood or stone. The depressed designs depicting ancient scenes from Greece, Italy, etc were also used as markers of the land. They were also collected as souvenirs from European Grand Tours in 1830.
