This really excellent portable gramophone was made by 'His Master's Voice'

Model:  C102 E  made in 1934  - Serial Number: B/9 70422

This is a de-luxe variant in black leathercloth. It was very popular in it's day and still is today due to it's superb playing quality. HMV 102 is still widely recognised as marking the pinnacle of portable gramophone design. It remained in production, with minor changes, from 1931 until the late 1950s.

This model is finished in black Rexine leathercloth with a walnut motor board, the internal fittings are chromium plated.

It has got an automatic or manual start/stop, via selector lever. Single spring motor with the 5a soundbox and very proportional tone arm and horn system.

Condition:

It is in outstanding working condition with no damage, marking or staining and has probably seen only limited use.

Our reference: 05903

His Master's Voice, abbreviated HMV is a trademark in the music business, and for many years was the name of a large record label. The name was coined in 1899 as the title of a painting of the dog Nipper listening to a wind-up gramophone. In the photograph on which the painting was based, the dog was listening to a phonograph cylinder. This image comes from a painting by English artist Francis BarraudA.R.A. and titled His Master's Voice.
