Antique French Art Deco Green Patinated Bronze of Semi nude Warrior

Antique French Art Deco Green Patinated Bronze of Semi-nude Warrior c.1930

This is a magnificent antique French Art Deco green patinated bronze sculpture of a semi-nude warrior, by the famous French sculptor, Pierre Le Faguays (French, 1892-1962), circa 1930 in date.   This stunning sculpture features the remarkable figure of a classical semi-nude warrior with a javelin in his right hand and an oval shield on his left arm with both javelin and shield being detachable.  He is depicted with impressive facial expressions and body gestures in the act of determinedly and assertively throwing the javelin while parrying with his shield.    The sculptor has succeeded in conveying every little detail of the scene - the tight muscles of the warrior given by the tension of the act, the frowning forehead above a focused gaze and the legs stretching deep-rooted on the ground make us feel engaged with the scene and fully captivated.    The sloping rocky style bronze base in which the warrior stands is signed 'P. Le Faguays'.    This high-quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.   This is a splendid bronze sculpture and it will no doubt become the centrepiece of your Art Deco collection.   The attention to detail here is remarkable and this bronze is sure to receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation of condition.

Pair of Large Art Deco Revival Bronze Seated Dogs 20th C

Pair of Large Art Deco Revival Bronze Seated Dogs 20th C

Here we have a very impressive pair of bronze dog statues fashioned in the timeless Art Deco style showing them sitting attentively waiting for the command of their master. Dating from the last quarter of the 20th century these fine pieces show a workmanship second-to-none and would make superb display pieces either indoors on either side of a fireplace or outdoors in a garden. They have been cast using the traditional ‘lost wax’ also known as the ‘cire-perdue’ method. Condition These bronze dog statues are in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs. Additional Information About The ‘Lost Wax’ Method of Bronze Statue Casting Used by most cultures all around the world, bronze sculptures have been fashioned by this method since at least the 3rd millennium BCE. The technique makes use of a wax model of the piece to be cast, which is coated in plaster or clay to create a mold. The wax is warmed up and drained off once the mold is set. If a hollow bronze statue is called for then the wax model is fabricated around a heat proof kernel. Molten bronze is put into the mold and left to dry. Once the metal has cooled enough, the mold is broken open to expose the bronze statue within. Art Deco or Deco Art Deco is an important aesthetic arts design style that first made an appearance in France in the 1920s, and blossomed throughout the world during the 30s and 40s. It is an eclectic design that mixes traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often distinguished by vibrant colours, bold geometric shapes, and extravagant ornamentation. Deco appeared from the Interwar period when rapid industrialization was transforming culture. One of its major attributes is an embrace of technology. This distinguishes Deco from the organic themes favored by its precursor Art Nouveau. Historian Bevis Hillier outlined Art Deco as "an assertively modern style... [that] ran to symmetry rather than asymmetry, and to the rectilinear rather than the curvilinear; it responded to the demands of the machine and of new material... [and] the requirements of mass production". During its heyday Art Deco exemplified glamour, luxury, exuberance, and faith in social and technological advance. Art Deco Style Bronze Girl with a Shawl and Platter

Art Deco Style Bronze Girl with a Shawl and Platter

Of interest to bronze lovers and in particular, lovers of Art Deco bronze statues, this is an eye-catching Art Deco style bronze statuette in a typical Art Deco pose dating from the latter part of the 20th century. The naked woman is portrayed holding a platter with a dramatic shawl flowing almost to the ground. Holding a balletic pose typical of Art Deco figures, she stands on a three stepped square plinth. The quality and unique design of this Art Deco style bronze statuette is superb and it is sure to be treasured by any discerning admirer of fine art and the Art Deco period. This Art Deco style bronze statuette was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method, which enables pieces with a high level of detail to be cast. Condition This bronze statuette is in excellent condition. Please see the photographs for confirmation of this. More About The ‘Lost Wax’ Method of Bronze Casting This extremely old method of casting bronze statues and bronze statuettes has been used since at least the third millennium BCE and has changed very little to this day. It involves creating a wax model of the statue or piece that is to be cast. This is then coated with a suitable substance, such as plaster, to create a mold. Once the mold is dry, the wax is heated and drained off leaving the space into which to pour the molten bronze. If a hollow bronze is required, then the wax model is built around a heat-resistant core which does not melt and so ensures that the centre of the cast bronze statue will be hollow. More About the Art Deco Style This became a very influential visual arts style and first appeared in France in the 1920s. It flourished internationally during the 1930s and 1940s. An eclectic style, it combined both traditional craft motifs with ‘Machine Age’ imagery and materials. The early style featured rich colours, lavish ornamentation and bold geometric shapes. It is distinguished from its predecessor Art Nouveau by its embrace of technology and new materials such as plastic. It developed over time to accommodate the requirements of mass production and the earlier lavish decoration gave way to more streamlined shapes and curves. During its heyday Art Deco represented all that was luxurious, glamorous and exuberant and expressed faith in technological and social progress. More Information and To View This wonderful Art Deco style bronze statuette is probably best viewed in person. However we know that this is not always possible so you are welcome to contact us using the contact details shown above with any questions you might have about this lovely Art Deco bronze statue.
