Regent Antiques makes it a priority to always have a nice choice of antique armchairs available for you to view at their North London showroom, alongside others from more recent periods

There’s nothing nicer than relaxing in an attractive and comfortable antique armchair, especially one which has been carefully and sympathetically restored and reupholstered by our own craftsmen in our own workshops.

It is our policy to always offer items for sale in excellent condition wherever possible but we are also careful to point out that, over a century or more of daily use, antique armchairs and other antique furniture items are likely to acquire something of a period feel that is impossible to replicate.

Carefully Selected Antique Armchairs From Across The Centuries

We offer carefully selected antique armchairs in a variety of styles and from a number of periods in furniture making history and you are welcome to view our range online or, better still, in person in our north London showrooms.

Check out our extensive range of antique Victorian armchairs, Regency armchairs, Empire armchairs, Chippendale armchairs, Sheraton armchairs, Art Deco armchairs and many more in lots of different styles and from different periods in furniture making history including armchairs from major manufacturers such as Gillows.

Vintage & Contemporary Period Style Armchairs

Those seeking an authentic period look with the benefits of up-to-date construction and an appearance to suit their particular needs may wish to take a closer look at our range of top quality period style furniture including a number of armchairs and all upholstered in fine leather.

The hide used for upholstering this range may be finished in a wide choice of colours to suit your decor so please check out this category to see the choice of styles that is available.

From our ever popular Captains Chairs, Directors Chairs and Chippendale Style Wing Back armchairs, there is bound to be an armchair that suits your needs and which will look great in your intended location.

Browse For Antique Armchairs From The Comfort of Your Armchair

Don’t leave it to chance when looking for a comfortable antique armchair or perhaps a period style piece from a more recent era such as Art Deco. Check this category regularly and pay us a visit whenever you can - the showroom is open every weekday from 10am until 5pm and on occasional Saturdays. If you can’t make the trip please feel free to contact our team of antique furniture experts using the contact details shown above to get the answers to any questions that you might have.

Bespoke English Handmade Amsterdam Leather Arm Chair Buckskin

Bespoke English Handmade Amsterdam Leather Arm Chair Buckskin

This is an absolutely stunning new bespoke 'Amsterdam Armchair' in a beautiful buckskin colour, hand-made in England with materials of the finest quality. Old English buckskin is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Extra fat liquors are applied during tanning to give the leather a slightly waxy feel. These leathers are designed to allow the natural marking variations of the leather to show through to the finish coat.   Pull-up leathers do not have a consistent colour density across the whole hide and are designed to change colour and sheen when pulled or stretched. They are not as colour fast as pigmented hides and are designed to allow furniture to age and relax through use and over time. Evidence of marks and scarring will be seen through the surface finish.   Each hide will be unique, as will be the furniture on which it is used. The studding is achieved with close individual nails or studs -  not by using strips - and each nail is individually hammered in by hand.   Seats have individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand sewn to the beechwood frame. The filling is canvas, fibre and felt.   The effect can be very pleasing although bear in mind that this hand-dyed leather can fade in direct sunlight. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. Available in other colours upon request. Bespoke orders and wholesale enquiries welcome. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation.

More About Louis XV Furniture Throughout the reign of Louis XV furniture design evolved taking in various fashions. The preference for smaller items and more comfort came to the fore during the Louis XV period, contrasting with the more bombastic and large scale grandeur of the early styles from the Louis XIV period, which had been heavily influenced by the need to have furniture that match the grandeur of the massive rooms in the Palace of Versailles. Louis XV had many of these rooms divided up and a more intimate styling became fashionable. Many new forms of chairs were developed during the Louis XV period which all had more comfort in mind. These included the chaise longue, the Bergere which had a low seat, an extra cushion and wings which made it easier to take naps in the chair and the Fauteuil de cabinet - a chair designed to with with a desk and provide much more comfort whilst writing. These Louis XV dining chairs with their padded back and seats show this trend for comfort and will add the ‘wow’ factor to any dining table. They are in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs. Viewing A Set Of Louis XV Dining Chairs In Person We recommend that you try and browse through our objects personally.
