Sinking into a sumptuous leather armchair after a hard day’s work - shopping or watching the match - is a luxury we should all allow ourselves from time to time, and there is no finer chair in which to do it that one from Regent Antiques’ range of fine antique leather armchairs and period style leather armchairs.

Antique Leather Armchairs

Like a fine wine, leather furniture - including antique leather armchairs - often improve with age. The upholstery, usually fine quality leather, takes on a patina and unique character as the hide gets more and more worn in. This unique combination of colour and appearance cannot be effectively faked. This is the reason why so many people seek these lovely armchairs for both home use and for placing in commercial spaces such as restaurants, offices, hotel lounges and bars.

There are times however when the well worn look turns into the worn out look - the upholstery simply does not have more life in it. You know the kind of thing - a fine old leather armchair with the stuffing hanging out - sometimes you just have to give them a helping hand.

Bespoke English Handmade Carlton Leather Desk Chair BBO

This is an absolutely stunning bespoke new 'Carlton Armchair' in a beautiful antique browny burnt orange colour, hand-made in England with materials of the finest quality. The hand-dyed russet hide bears all the hallmarks of natural leather including scars, stretch marks, grain and texture variation. Upholstered in top quality Scottish cow hide which has been hand dyed and antiqued. Because they are hand dyed we can finish the leather to any colour requested, and the beautiful antique patina is achieved by the special walnut based stains that we use in the process. The studding is achieved with close individual nails / studs not by using strips, and each nail is individually hammered in by hand. The show wood on the chair is solid mahogany and the frame is made from solid beech, so we only use hardwoods. The seat has individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand sewn to the beechwood frame. The filling is canvas, fibre and felt. The effect can be very pleasing although bear in mind that this hand-dyed leather can fade in direct sunlight. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. This is a very handsome bespoke new leather wing back armchair.   They feature fantastic Chippendale style ball and claw legs and beautiful sumptuous tan brown leather upholstery.   ‘Old English’ is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Extra fat liquors are applied during tanning to give the leather a slightly waxy feel. Antique Pair of English Leather Armchairs c.1880

This is an absolutely fabulous pair of antique English solid walnut library armchairs, circa 1880 in date. Each with a beautiful hand carved cresting rail, the backs, seats and arms upholstered in sumptuous  leather, the arms on spindle supports and on turned front legs terminating in the original brass castors. The brown leather is truly striking and in excellent condition,  these armchairs are of a quality that would be very difficult to find today and the solid walnut  has wonderful hand carved decoration.
