A large vintage bronze Neoclassical Revival sculpture of Pauline Bonaparte as Venus Victrix, by Antonio Canova, signed and dating from the late 20th Century.
She is staged as a half-naked beauty on a couch, her head resting on her right arm, holding an apple in the left hand. The patinated bronze sculpture features gilt high-lights and is raised on a black marble base. It bears the replica signature of the artist, Canova. The original can be seen at the Museo e Galleria Borghese, in Rome.
"Pauline Bonaparte as Venus Victrix", (Venus Victorious), is probably the most famous work by the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova. Pauline Bonaparte, sister of the French statesman Napoleon, insisted on being portrayed as Venus by Canova in 1807.
