This remarkable dark brown patinated bronze bust is after a sketch of the head of lady by the world-famous Renaissance painter, Raphael, and features a beautiful Classical young woman looking downward while being caught in an angelic mood. Her shoulders are partially covered by a classical flowing gown and her hair is delicately tied up.
The bronze is engraved on one side 'Raphael' and bears the mark of the famous bronze foundry of H. Luppens et Cie of Brussels on the other side.
This high-quality hot cast solid bronze was produced by using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.
It is raised on a stunning stepped marble base of rectangular form and attractive salmon colour.
