More About The ‘Lost Wax’ Method of Bronze Casting
This method of creating bronze statues and other bronze sculptures has been around since at least the 3rd millennium BCE and has been extensively used by most cultures across the globe with the exception of Australia.
The method uses a wax model of the sculpture to be cast which is coated in a substance such as plaster or clay to create a mold. Once the mold is dry, the wax is heated and drained off, leaving a mold that has every single small detail of the original wax model. If a hollow bronze object is required then the wax model is built around a heat-resistant core which withstands the heating of both the wax and the molten metal.
The molten bronze is poured into the space created by the melted wax and left to harden. Once this has occurred the mold is broken open to reveal the bronze cast statue or sculpture.
