A beautiful pair of tondo oil landscape paintings on board by John Bell (English, 1811-1895), of "Knaresborough Castle, Yorkshire", signed and dated lower left "J Bell 1851" and "Bootburn Bridge, Herts", signed and dated indistinctly lower right.
The pair of round landscapes are framed in ornate gilded frames and painted in muted, natural colours with soft light that emphasize balance, calmness, and the beauty of nature.
Knaresborough Castle has tall trees on one side, framing the view and a calm body of water that stretches into the distance, with mountains.
Bootburn Bridge, Herts shows a tranquil landscape with water a prominent tree stands near the centre or slightly to one side, acting as a focal point.
Both paintings are inscribed on the backboards verso:
"original label beneath" John Bell, "London 1851"
