Alfredo Biagini

Rome, 20 February 1886 - Rome, 14 July 1952 ) was a sculptor , ceramist and interior decorator.

Alfredo Biagini is known in particular for his animal works. In the last years of his life he won the competition for the decoration of the bronze door of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican which, due to his premature death, he was unable to perform.

Born into a family of goldsmiths, in 1905 he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome attending architecture and sculpture courses, which he abandoned in 1909 to go to Paris , where he attended anatomy courses; in the following years he shuttled between the two cities, stopping for long periods in France.

In 1912 he participated, in Rome, in the II national competition for artistic decoration, organized by the Ministry of Education with two plaster bas-reliefs inspired by the theme of "spring festivals", in a classical style close to the works of Giovanni Prini, which were rewarded.
