This is a magnificent antique Victorian inlaid marquetry Gonçalo Alves table top secretaire cabinet circa 1860 in date.
The secretaire features a bowed hinged top and a fall down front that is superbly decorated with an inlaid classical urn plus foliate and floral marquetry, which opens to revealing an oak fitted interior with red leather writing surface, pigeon holes, small drawers and a space for your favourite books on each side.
The seven small drawers, each with the original ivorine label, are interestingly labelled,matches, stamps, bills paid, letters unanswered, letters answered, bills unpaid, ink and penwipes.
This is a highly decorative piece which will make a statement once placed on any period desk.
Complete with brass handles to each side and working lock and key.
