Dating from Circa 1710, this very special piece of finely crafted furniture is an antique burr walnut Queen Anne secretaire chest / escritoire.
It has a secret cushion moulded drawer in the frieze and the fall front drops down to reveal an inset leather writing surface that can be adjusted to make an angled writing slope. Once opened, the interior of this antique walnut secretaire reveals a fascinating interior comprising eleven small drawers and a cupboard. The cupboard door opens to reveal three further drawers.
It features two sets of pigeon holes above the drawers and these slide out to reveal yet more secret drawers and there is another secret drawer inside the secretaire portion of this chest.
The base of the chest comprises two half-width drawers above two full width drawers, all having bat shaped drop brass handles.
The antique walnut secretaire is outlined throughout with decorative herringbone stringing.
