This is a truly stunning English Victorian silver-plated claret jug, bearing the makers' mark of the renowned silversmiths Atkin Brothers, Sheffield, circa 1880 in date.

This is a truly stunning English Victorian silver-plated claret jug, bearing the makers' mark of the renowned silversmiths Atkin Brothers, Sheffield, circa 1880 in date.
 
This magnificent claret jug has a charming rounded shape, stands on an elegant circular spreading foot and features a waisted neck and the original hinged lid. 
 
It has an exceptional engraved floral decoration throughout the body and a very finely chased handle with a superb naturalistic lizard to the top.
 
The body of the claret jug has a beautifully engraved monogram to the centre.
 
The underside of the claret jug has the makers' marks HA EA FA for Atkin Brothers. 
 
The unique quality and design of this claret jug will make it a treasured piece for any discerning collector.

Condition:

In excellent condition with clear makers marks and no dings, dents or signs of repair. Please see photos for confirmation.

ATKIN BROTHERS, Sheffield

The firm traces its establishment to Thomas Law in mid 18th century. It was succeeded by Henry Atkin and John Oxley trading as Atkin, Oxley & Co. In 1840 Henry Atkin continued the trade as Henry Atkin & Co at 32 Howard Street, Sheffield. After his death, his brothers Harry Wrigth Atkin, Edward Thomas Atkin and Frank Shaw Atkin continued the business as Atkin Brothers. The firm was converted in 1925 into a limited liability company under the style of Atkin Brothers (Silversmiths) Ltd. Out of business in 1964.
