This is a fabulous antique Victorian burr walnut games and work table, circa 1870 in date.

It is made of beautiful burr walnut that has elegant satinwood and boxwood line inlaid decoration. The hinged top opens to reveal a fabulous baize lined gaming interior for playing cards with an inlaid chess and draughts board on the top.

It has a single fitted drawer with useful compartments over a pull out work box for storing items such as wool, threads, cottons, etc

The table sits on hand carved solid walnut cabriole legs, united by a stretcher, that terminate in their original brass and porcelain castors.

It is an elegant piece which will enhance a special room in your home.

In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned and polished in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

refers to the swirling figure present in nearly all walnut when cut and polished, and especially in the wood taken from the base of the tree where it joins the roots. However the true burr is a rare growth on the tree where hundreds of tiny branches have started to grow. Burr walnut produces some of the most complex and beautiful figuring you can find.
