Antique Bijouterie Table Dating From Around 1825

Bijouterie Tables were introduced in 18th century France, becoming popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They are also known as vitrines. Some vitrines have a mirrored back allowing viewing of both the back and front of the objects that are on display. These tables are often embellished with ormolu mounts and painted or lacquered panels, and the style was copied in England during the late 19th century at a time when the Louis XV style was in very much in vogue.

Biedermeier was a notable and very  influential style of furniture design originating in Germany between the years 1815–1848. The style was based on utilitarian principles and its influence extended into Austria and Scandinavia.

Throughout the Biedermeier period, the emphasis was on clean lines and a minimum of ornamentation. As time went on and the period progressed, however, the style shifted  from the early rebellion against Romantic-era fussiness to increasingly ornate commissions by a rising middle class who were eager to show off their new-found wealth.
