Storr & Mortimer

Storr & Mortimer were Goldsmiths and Jewellers with a Royal Warrant between 1822 and 1839.

Paul Storr left working for Rundell, Bridge and Rundell in 1819 and set up in business with John Mortimer. They named their firm Storr & Mortimer with a factory in Grays Inn Lane (now Road) run by Storr and retail premises in New Bond Street to be run by Mortimer.

Due to Paul Storr’s fantastic reputation from his years at Rundell, they soon built up a very influential clientele which included royalty, the aristocracy and upper classes. Despite this they suffered financial difficulties, mainly due to Mortimer’s poor business acumen and overstocking their shop. Storr’s nephew by marriage, John Samuel Hunt became a partner in 1826, having worked in the workshop as a silver chaser for many years.

Storr retired in 1839 and died in 1844. The firm continued as Mortimer & Hunt.
