The decorative process of Marquetry is often used to embellish what is otherwise a functional item. A table is still a table, somewhere to eat, work or play at, but sometimes we need more than just a functional surface – we want it to look good as well. At Regent Antiques we know a thing or two about furniture, and especially tables of all sizes and types, but there’s always a special place in our lives for Antique Dining Tables and other items that feature decorations using the technique of marquetry.

It is a painstaking and skillful craft to get right and we are very careful to make sure that we only offer for sale examples of marqustry furniture that is made to the highest of standards. Antique French Rosewood Serpentine Chest with Exquisite Marquetry Decoration

A lovely piece, from around 1860 and skillfully crafted in rosewood with attractive ormolu handles, escutcheons and mounts. This  chest includes three oak lined drawers, all of which still have their original locks, handles and keys.

The top of the chest is a beautiful Rosso Griotte marble surface and at the bottom it has elegant legs with pierced ormolu mounts.

Antique Marquetry Commode Chest In The Louis XV Style

This rosewood and marquetry inlaid serpentine commode also offers three large drawers to provide ample storage, and is fashioned in the Louis XV style.

The piece is elaborately detailed and  features exquisite floral marquetry with a beautiful ‘Marmo di Brescia’ marble top.

The impressive marquetry decoration is embellished by kingwood crossbanding and gilded ormolu mounts. The chest is mounted on elegant splayed legs featuring pierced ormolu sabots.

The chest is beautifully restored and measures 94cm high x 136cm wide x 70cm deep ( Height 3 feet, 1 inch x Width 4 feet, 5 inches x Depth 2 feet, 4 inches). Available for sale at just £3250.

French Antique Marquetry Marble Top Commode c. 1900

This lovely commode chest  has been crafted from beautiful kingwood with ormolu mounts and features exquisite floral marquetry and parquetry decoration. There is a beautiful peach variegated marble top with an elegant moulded edge.

The frieze, which features ormolu decoration has a wide central drawer plus a smaller drawer on either side. There are three spacious cupboards below, each featuring a central shelf.

The central panel with a marquetry of flowers and foliage in a basket, flanked by panels with lattice parquetry with similar panels to the sides.

The commode also features gilded bronze handles and mounts and is raised on elegant ormolu mounted cabriole legs. It  is complete with working locks and the original keys. The measurements are: Height 87 x Width 240 x Depth 56 which, in inches, is : Height 2 feet, 10 inches x Width 7 feet, 10 inches x Depth 1 foot, 10 inches.
