Guilloche

Guilloché (or Guilloche) is a decorative engraving technique named after the French engineer ‘“Guillot” who invented a machine that “could scratch fine patterns and designs on metallic surfaces’”

It enables the engraving of very precise, detailed and repeating patterns onto material such as silver.

The machine was called a rose engine and provided a breakthrough in the accuracy and speed at which items could be engraved as well as improving the delicacy and precision of the engraved designs.
