Filippo Indoni

Filipo Indoni ( 1842 -1908) was an Italian artist born in Rome. He painted in the Realist style and his main subjects were peasants and workers which he depicted as generally being happy and carefree. His intention was to represent the dignity and pride of ordinary working people, in contrast to the Romantics representation of them as being a downtrodden underclass.

His specialism was watercolour and his work is characterised by warm amber light and festive activities within idealistic country scenes. His paintings are also signed ‘F, Indoni’ using a beautiful script.
