This is a superb antique French gilt and brown patinated bronze figural group, circa 1870 in date
This exquisite bronze figural group features a gracefully seated mother and child in Neo-Classical style - possibly a Goddess and her Son.
The lovable mother wears a refined band to her hair made of grapes and vines and a delicate flowing robe. She is sculpted in the act of carefully feeding the joyful child with grapes. The delightful naked child also wears a band on his head made of foliage decoration.
The two beautifully detailed and fluid figures are seated on a distinctive draped upturned vessel, the whole on a delightful naturalistic base on a highly elaborate raised plinth with moulded cast border and ornate scrolled leaf cast front feet.
This high-quality bronze was produced by using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.
The craftsmanship is second to none throughout all aspects of this magnificent sculpture which is sure to add an unparalleled touch of elegance to your home.
