Let us begin with this exceptional antique French S\u00e8vres mantel clock by Leroy<\/a>, dating from the 19th century.<\/p>\n\n\n

This antique French Rococo Revival ormolu (gilt bronze) mantel clock with glass dome and giltwood base is by the renowned clock maker Leroy A Paris<\/em>, and is circa 1880 in date.<\/p>\n\n\n

The clock is adorned with a beautifully cast ormolu figure of the Genius of Music<\/em> (Le G\u00e9nie de la Musique<\/em>), depicted in Renaissance style. The figure is accompanied by a small organ, while a violin rests elegantly beside the circular enamel dial. The dial itself is particularly striking, featuring rare blue Arabic and Roman numerals and signed \u201cLeroy \u00e0 Paris.\u201d The composition is raised on a shaped rectangular base, richly decorated with charming cherub motifs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mechanically, the clock boasts a half-quarter chime movement with silk suspension and comes complete with its pendulum, bell, and two keys, along with its original glass dome and giltwood base\u2014an outstanding example of both beauty and functionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This superb ormolu-mounted and ebonised three train mantel clock chimes on 8 bells with a gong, and is the large size model retailed by Green of Landport. It is circa 1880 in date.

The caddy top case features five flaming finials and ribbon-tied foliate festoons above an arched cast brass glazed door, flanked by a caryatid to each corner, and with a foliate cast handle and pierced mask arched ormolu panel to each side. It is set on a stepped foot with scroll cast feet, the 8\u00bd inch arched ormolu dial with twin silvered subsidiary rings in the arch. ‘CHIME\/SILENT’ and ‘CHIME ON EIGHT BELLS\/WESTMINSTER CHIMES’ are above a silvered chapter ring signed astride the VI “Green Landport,\u201d with a matted centre and pierced blued steel hands, the three train chain fus\u00e9e movement with anchor escapement and pendulum locking block chiming the quarters on eight bells and striking the hour on a gong.<\/p>\n\n\n

This superb French piece, dating to circa 1850, combines striking malachite with finely cast bronze and ormolu mounts. At its centre sits a finely detailed figure of Louis XVI, depicted seated on an ormolu throne chair, absorbed in reading\u2014a composition that exudes both elegance and historical charm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clockmaker\u2019s name is inscribed on the backplate, and the movement\u2014signed and numbered (29) by Japy Fr\u00e8res, 1849\u2014attests to its authenticity and quality. It features an early French silk suspension movement and retains its original pendulum.<\/p>\n\n\n
