Next, we would like to introduce you to this magnificent antique oil painting by James Salt<\/a>. This beautiful oil on canvas, “On the Grand Canal” by James Salt (1850-1903) signed J. Salt (lower right), captures the most painted city in the history of art – Venice.<\/p>\n\n\n

The painting delightfully presents the city with its buildings on water and a few boats and gondolas. In the background the sky is slightly overcast which might indicate that the storm was just about to start. It is painted in a manner which resembles the school of Canaletto with a touch of Turner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist used very delicate pastel colours to add some mystery to the scenery with some vivid turquoise and slightly golden beige.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
