Art Deco furniture<\/a><\/strong> and decorative objects<\/a><\/strong> have always been a specialty of ours here at Regent Antiques.<\/p>\n

Many adore it but cannot quite put their finger on what it is when they see it.<\/p>\n

Some of our finer pieces were recently featured in the October issue<\/a><\/strong> of Home and Antiques<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In this issue the reader can discover the irresistible allure of Art Deco design and learn how to introduce timeless Deco charm into a special place in their home.<\/p>\n

Art Deco is a visual arts style that became popular in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s before waning after the Second World War.<\/p>\n

Its name is short for \u2018Arts Decoratifs\u2019 and was taken from the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes<\/em> (International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925.<\/p>\n

The style is characterised by bold geometric shapes, rich colours, and lavish ornamentation that combines craft motifs with machine age imagery and materials. It emerged from the interwar period where art and culture were being transformed by rapid industrialisation.<\/p>\n

In its heyday, it came to represent glamour, exuberance, and luxury together with faith in technological and social progress.<\/p>\n
