Parquetry<\/strong> – is a decorative technique using a geometric mosaic of wood pieces to create a decorative effect. It is used as veneer patterns on furniture and as block patterns for floors. Parquetry patterns are always geometrical and angular using triangles, squares and lozenges. <\/p>\n

The word is French coming from the Old French word \u2018parchet\u2019 which literally means \u2018a small enclosed space\u2019. In 1684 large diagonal squares were laid in Versailles to replace the marble flooring which due to needing constant washing, was rotting the joists under the floors <\/p>\n

The timber used is chosen for contrast, such as oak, walnut, cherry, lime, pine and maple. Sometimes rich hardwoods such as mahogany and other tropical hardwoods are used. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
