Howard and Sons<\/strong> became known as one of the Victorian era\u2019s best upholstered chair makers rivalling Gillows of Lancaster for the quality and style of their furniture. They were founded in 1820 by John Howard who was listed as a cabinet maker <\/p>\n

They worked together with Gillows on many occasions making upholstered items for them and other renowned furniture makers such as Maple & Co. They exhibited at all the large exhibitions around the world including the Third World Expo in 1862 where they won a prize for a suite of library furniture and they also won prizes at the Paris Expositions Universelle in 1878 and 1900.<\/p>\n

They achieved the first of their Royal Warrants in 1901.<\/p>\n

They are famous for their antique upholstered sofas, wing chairs, easy armchairs and chaises longues. They used traditional and highly skilled craft techniques such as tenon jointed frames using solid woods ensuring not just beauty but also durability <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
