He founded the company in 1838 and the firm became Holland &amp; Son in 1851 when his son Henry joined him.<\/p>\n<p>In 1866 they made the major acquisition of Elizabeth Eaton &amp; Son a renowned spoon maker with a long pedigree of making fine quality spoons.<br \/>\nHenry senior retired in 1880 and two further partners were taken on by his son to form Holland, Aldwinckle &amp; Slater. Henry junior retired in 1883 and the firm then acquired Chawner &amp; Co.<\/p>\n<p>In 1887 they went on to acquire another famous silversmiths, Robert Hennel &amp; Sons.<\/p>\n<p>By the turn of the 20th Century the firm was acknowledged as producing some of the finest silver flatware.
