Andrew Fogelberg<\/strong> was a silversmith who first appears in records as a plateworker in Soho, London in 1773.<\/p>\n

He appears to have gone into partnership with Stephen Gilbert from 1780 until 1793 operating from Soho premises in Church Street and they have registered marks from this time.<\/p>\n

He was noted for the restrained and elegant classicism of his work. His speciality was the use of small cameo-like medallions which he copied from Tassie, an artist who had moved to London in 1766 and who was renown for producing duplicates of famous gems. These had become extremely popular in London at the time.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s likely that Fogelberg was Swedish and this type of decoration was also popular in his home country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
