Is a type of earthenware produced by Thomas Whieldon who was a master potter in the early to middle 18th Century in Stoke-on-Trent. <\/p>\n
By 1740 he was the master of Fenton Low Pottery and he trained Spode and Wedgwood, going into partnership with Wedgwood for a time. <\/p>\n
His characteristic style was producing marbleized and he is renowned for producing Tortoiseshell Ware, which he made by applying copper and manganese compounds to cream-coloured earthenware. He also produced pieces with natural shapes like cabbages or cauliflowers. <\/p>\n
He retired in 1780 but went on supporting and boosting the careers of Wedgwood, Spode and other famous potters. <\/p>\n
