The company was founded by Thomas Weir who, in 1865, arrived in Ireland from Scotland. He started as the head jeweller at West & Sons but then decided to buy his own shop in 1870.<\/p>\n
The business grew rapidly and he was joined by his five sons. They moved to bigger premises and expanded, opening branches in Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff, Swansea and London each one run by a son. <\/p>\n
The Royal Dublin Society commissioned them to make the Aga Khan trophy which is now presented at the Dublin Horse show to the winning team.<\/p>\n
