The house was sold in 1748 to Richard Elcock Weddell whose son William improved and enlarged the house. The interiors were remodelled and several architects were commissioned including Robert Adam.<\/p>\n<p>The current house contains a wealth of valuable furniture, paintings and precious artefacts and is owned by the Compton family, descendents of the William Wendell.
