I think it’s always interesting to see what other people have in their shopping baskets, do you think so too or am I just weird? Why this brand or that colour? This style or that. Fascinating stuff.<\/p>\n

No, seriously, it is nice to know what interests people; what is popular and fashionable and what is not and this is particularly the case when it comes to antiques and collectable items. Styles of antique furniture that could not be given away at one time are now in demand and the same applies to virtually every area of the trade. I myself once had a very large collection of porcelain and china which went from costing a few pence at boot sales to being ultra-fashionable and selling for hundreds of pounds in some cases. Fast forward a few years and values have settled down again but I’m not going to fall for that one, I’m holding on and still buying whilst prices are lower – they will rise again, hopefully soon!<\/p>\n

Which brings me to this round up of recent sales made here at Regent Antiques. What has caught our customer’s eye and led to them making a purchase. Let’s start by taking a look at this very striking Vintage pyramid desk clock by Jaeger-LeCoultre, <\/a>which dates from around 1970:<\/p>\n

This fine clock is mounted in a beautiful polished gilt brass, enamelled lapis, and crystal glass pyramid case. It has Roman Numerals together with gilt sword hands and it is wound from underneath. The clock bears the engraved signature of Jaeger-LeCoultre, and has “Fabrique En Suisse” displayed on the face.<\/p>\n

The clock is supplied in\u00a0original signed leather and velvet case and will be a very fine addition to the lucky new owners desk.<\/p>\n

Next we say goodbye to another fine timepiece, namely this\u00a0Antique English 9 tube Musical Grandfather Clock which dates from around 1880:<\/p>\n

Fully restored, cleaned and oiled before being shipped to its proud new owner, this late Victorian, mahogany, 8 day, 9 tube Grandfather clock has a beautiful silvered decorative dial with secondary dials displaying Silent\/Strike and Whittington \/ Westminster\/St. Michael chiming options. The clock chimes on the hour and quarter hour. It is housed in a mahogany case which has the original astragal bevilled glass panes to the door.<\/p>\n

There are elegant Corinthian fluted half columns flanking the hinged door which opens to accommodate nine tubular bells as well as the brass weights and pendulum. The accurately machined brass movement keeps excellent time, having been professionally cleaned and oiled. Every quarter hour, the strike has warm and musical resonance, played on nine tuned chime tubes. A series of levers are used to choose either the familiar Westminster, Whittington or Saint Michael melodies, and there is also an option for the clock to be silent or strike on the hour.<\/p>\n

At 6ft 5 inches high this is an imposing clock and is sure to make an impression in its new home.<\/p>\n

Leaving clocks aside, for the time being, we move on to our next item, namely this\u00a0Antique Edwardian Dressing Screen which dates from c.1900<\/a>:<\/p>\n

This tall, (almost 6ft high), screen has been fully restored and re-upholstered in our own workshops and is sure to be a talking point in its new owner’s home. It is an Edwardian inlaid satinwood three-fold screen, each section comprising of \u00a0a shaped cresting rail located above glazed panels that are carved with leaf motifs. \u00a0There is a scrolling leaf pattern damask material applied to the panels below together with tambour set corners. A nice decorative, or indeed functional, item for any setting.<\/p>\n
