They are also known as vitrines. Some vitrines have a mirrored back allowing viewing of both the back and front of the objects that are on display. It is an antique Biedermeier flame mahogany bijouterie table mounted on lyre shaped supports with ormolu mounts and is circa 1825 in date. The table features a glazed top so that the contents are visible from all angles. Underneath there is a useful drawer and the whole piece stands on a beautiful platform base. The style was based on utilitarian principles and its influence extended into Austria and Scandinavia.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the Biedermeier period, the emphasis was on clean lines and a minimum of ornamentation.
