Here at Regent Antiques, antique cabinets of all types and sizes – to include display cabinets – have long been one of our defining specialties. Our collection is as varied as it is captivating, offering pieces that span styles, periods, and craftsmanship traditions.
Antique cabinets combine beauty and function in a way few other pieces can—offering timeless style, remarkable craftsmanship, and a glimpse into the artistry of past generations.
Let us begin with this striking mid-20th-century Harrods green lacquered cabinet on a stand.

This fabulous lacquered and gilt japanned cocktail cabinet-on-stand – originally retailed by Harrods, and bearing their ivorine label, is circa 1940 in date.
The two-door cabinet is decorated in the chinoiserie style with figures and pagodas in a mountainous landscape to the front, and features storks. It opens to a shelved interior with a pull-out drinks server. The giltwood stand is superbly carved in the Chippendale taste with a decorative carved frieze centred with a shell crest. The cabinet is raised on cabriole legs that terminate in pad feet.

In addition to the Harrods label, the cabinet also carries a paper label from Harvey Nichols & Co Ltd Depository, adding another layer of provenance.
A piece like this effortlessly brings elegance—and a touch of theatre—to any interior.
Next, we turn to a truly magnificent 18th-century Dutch walnut cabinet on a chest.

Dating to circa 1780, this remarkable piece showcases the artistry of Dutch marquetry at its finest. Crafted in walnut, it is richly inlaid with exquisite hand-cut boxwood and fruitwood floral designs, characteristic of the period.
The upper cabinet features a single glazed door and glazed sides, allowing for the display of treasured objects, and rests upon a bombe serpentine-front chest of drawers. Each side of the chest is adorned with beautifully composed floral marquetry bouquets, enhancing its visual depth and elegance.
Chased ormolu handles and escutcheons provide a luxurious contrast, while the piece retains its original working steel locks and keys—an increasingly rare and desirable feature.

This cabinet stands as an outstanding example of 18th-century Dutch craftsmanship, combining functionality with decorative excellence.
Finally, let’s have a look at this stunning antique French floral marquetry cabinet, circa 1900, and truly of museum quality.

This superb and imposing antique French-mounted marquetry, burr walnut, and kingwood side cabinet features a shaped marble top over a pair of frieze drawers and cupboard doors inlaid with floral marquetry on an ebonised ground, flanked by ormolu mounts in the form of classical figures, the sides with contrasting veneers, raised on a shaped-plinth base with further ormolu mounts. The entire piece highlights the unique, truly exceptional pattern of the floral marquetry, set into the ebonised ground with stunning kingwood banding, and further complemented by a plethora of exquisite gilded ormolu mounts that decorate this incredible piece.

With the original working lock and key.
Oozing sophistication and charm, this cabinet would have been the absolute epitome of French high society. The attention to detail and lavish decoration are certain to draw the eye wherever you choose to place them in your home.
Whether you are drawn to the timeless elegance of 18th-century craftsmanship, the refined glamour of early 20th-century French design, or the bold decorative appeal of mid-century chinoiserie, each of these antique cabinets tells its own unique story.
