Stunning Antique Writing Tables from Regent Antiques
For nearly half a century antique writing tables, such as those of the George IV, Victorian, and French Empire periods have been one of our specialties.
We always maintain an extensive inventory of antique furniture, and in particular antique writing tables, for our discerning corporate clientele as well as private collectors and enthusiasts from around the world.
Let us start with this stunning antique George IV Gonçalo Alves writing table from the early 19th century.

This extraordinary early George IV antique library writing table has a rectangular top with a moulded edge and original inset green leather writing surface that features beautiful hand-tooled and impressed gilt decoration. It has two large drawers to the frieze and is raised on four turned, tapering, and reeded carved legs that terminate in their original brass cup castors.

Finished on all sides, this desk is designed to stand freely in the center of a room—ideal for a large home or office—and comes complete with its original working locks and keys.
Next, let us examine this stunning antique Victorian writing table by Edwards & Roberts.

This elegant antique Victorian writing table, also Gonçalo Alves, is circa 1850 in date. The top is inset with a gold-tooled burgundy leather writing surface above two frieze drawers, and is raised on elegant superbly carved twin turned tapering legs that terminate in carved trestles joined by a stretcher and raised on decoratively carved cabriole legs.

One drawer bears the impressed Edwards & Roberts stamp. Finished on all sides, this writing table stands elegantly in the center of a room and includes its original working locks and key.
Finally, feast your eyes on this absolutely stunning French Empire bureau plat writing table, circa 1870.

This ormolu mounted mahogany bureau plat, has a rectangular top and an inset gold-tooled green leather writing surface with a highly decorative gilt-bronze border.

The frieze has three oak lined drawers and is profusely decorated with gilt bronze anthemion plaques. The desk features large Egyptian Revival Neo-classical winged sphinxes on each corner, and is raised on four square section tapering legs terminating in attractive ormolu feet.

Beautifully finished all around, this desk is meant to be showcased—not tucked against a wall. It’s a stunning statement piece that draws the eye wherever it’s placed, and it still includes its original working lock and key.
Each of these antique writing tables embodies the artistry, craftsmanship, and timeless appeal that define the very best in antique furniture. Whether George IV, Victorian, or French Empire, these pieces were designed not only for function but to elevate the spaces they inhabit.
