A stunning antique French Empire pedestal desk with slides and modesty panel, circa 1860.
The desk in excellent condition with original handles and locks. The gold tooled leather writing surface on the top and the slides is original and has a few marks and scuffs which only serve to add character to this wonderful piece. This desk was crafted from solid mahogany and the drawer linings are solid oak with hand cut dovetails. The ormolu mounts, typical of the Empire period add elegance and style, and the modesty panel at the rear has a wonderful ormolu mount of a cherub riding a chariot, while the sides have ormolu laurel leaves. Note the large slides on either side which can be slid out when extra desktop space is required. Instill the elegance of a bygone era to a special place in your home with this fabulous antique desk.
