Bruno Zach worked between the years of 1918 and 1935, reveling in the spirit of Art Deco. Although he executed some graceful moving statues, this Berlin based sculptor devoted most of his energy and talents to the exotic. Zach loved to render his world of exotic nightlife in his work, especially the prostitues with whom he loved to socialize. In fact, one prostitue with whom Zach was in love refused to marry him, leading to his famous work entitled "Hearts."

Sometimes called by the French name of 'cire perdue' or the Latin, 'cera perduta' is the process by which a bronze or brass is cast from an artist's sculpture.

In industrial uses, the modern process is called investment casting. An ancient practice, the process today varies from foundry to foundry, but the steps which are usually used in casting small bronze sculptures in a modern bronze foundry are generally quite standardised.
