An absolutely stunning antique Victorian breakfront bookcase, circa 1860, in fully restored condition. The shelves on the top half of the bookcase are adjustable so that you can fit books of differing sizes.

The piece has been accomplished in Pollard oak (burr oak), a rare and highly desirable wood.

It is a golden oak colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing. Pollard oak is the burr of oak, and has very distinctive markings.

Pollard oak is found at or near the base of some oak trees. It also occurs when trees are pollarded, or cut back on a regular basis. This cutting produces the distinctive markings and attractive grain.
